frequently asked questions

  • THERAPY

Focuses on emotional wellbeing, mental health, past experiences, trauma, relationships, coping, and patterns that affect daily functioning. It may involve deeper emotional processing, trauma-informed work, and resolving distress.

    COACHING

Focuses on the future, growth, leadership, action, performance, clarity, and accountability. Coaching is non-directive and assumes individuals are capable, resourceful, and whole.

HOW THEY WORK TOGETHER AT AKOYA

You do not need to choose between therapy or coaching. Sessions naturally flow between both depending on what you bring that day.

    Harmony’s integrative lens ensures:

    • Navigating which lane we are in, counselling or coaching

    • Safety if deep emotions arise

    • Support for goals and performance

    • Awareness of nervous-system patterns

    • Movement toward meaningful personal + professional growth

    • Respect for both therapeutic and coaching boundaries

If your needs fall outside Akoya’s scope (e.g., psychiatric care, detox, crisis intervention), Harmony will discuss appropriate referrals.

  • The International Coaching Federation Global Coaching Client Study shows most clients reported improved work performance, better business management, more efficient time management, increased team effectiveness, and more growth and opportunities.

The same study found that coaching clients noted greater self-confidence, enhanced relationships, more effective communications skills, better work-and-life balance and an improvement in wellness.

Nearly 70 percent of individuals indicated they had at least made back their initial investment. The median suggests that a client who achieved financial benefit from coaching can typically expect an ROI of more than three times the amount spent.

  • Clinical counselling helps people improve their mental, emotional and physical health while encouraging positive relationships with self, others, and the larger community.

The building of a trusting and comfortable relationship between client(s) and counsellor is important as counselling may cover topics of distress, therefore questions or comments on the counselling process are invited at any time.

Therapy can help a person to gain a new understanding about their problems and to acquire new ways of coping with and solving those problems. Therapy can help a person to develop new skills and to change behaviour patterns. Therapy can contribute to an increased sense of self-esteem.

  • Yes, I offer virtual online sessions!
